Emily Wark - Offering piano lessons on Fridays.
The studio welcomes Ms. Emily Wark to its teaching family this year. Ms. Emily started lessons in piano at the age of 8. She is currently working on her ARCT Piano Degree
from the Royal Conservatory of Canada. Emily's passion is to introduce kids to music
and through their new discovery to develop a passion for it. Emily also plays the classic
violin and the Celtic fiddle. Her other hobbies include figure skating and tennis.
Sylvain Vallee - Offering lessons in voice, piano, guitar, flute, violin, mandolin,
cello, saxophone, clarinet, oboe, trombone and hand drums on Wednesdays and
Thursdays through the Arts Council studio.
Besides studying and practicing music through private instruction, Sylvain attended
formal classes at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he was one of
nine chosen out of over 500 applicants for the Associateship Program. Sylvain also attended classes at the University of Toronto and University of Western Ontario studying many facets of music performance, theory, history, composition and musicianship.
Sylvain has gathered ‘real world experience’ performing and touring all of North America as a multi-instrumentalist sharing the stage with the likes of Long John Baldry, Jeff Healey, Collin James, Martina McBride & Keith Urban. These days, Sylvain is composing music for TV shows as well as performing solo concerts that show off his virtuosic piano styles and singing.
Kate McKie - Director, South Shuswap Children's Choir
Ms.Kate McKie joins the Arts Council for the South Shuswap as the Children's Choir Director. Ms. Kate brings with her, years of experience teaching music in the school system. As well, Ms. Kate was the Director for the North Okanagan Children's Honour Choir. Welcome Ms. Kate.
Larry Stephenson - Offering lessons in guitar, banjo and ukulele on Mondays and Thursdays this year.
Returning to the studio this year is Larry Stephenson, a favourite with the FACES students. Larry and his wife Jane are recording artists and live music performers who have shared their talents with many across Canada and the United States. We are very fortunate to have them call the Shuswap their home.
Kelly Coubrough - Vocal Coach, Musical Theatre & Musical Explorations Instructor,
Adult Choir Director
Ms. Kelly Coubrough has experience in many genres of music including opera, new
music, and musical theatre. She holds an HBMus in vocal performance from Wilfrid
Laurier University (2002). Since then, she has performed professionally across Canada
with a variety of companies including Tapestry New Opera Works (Toronto, ON), Queen
of Puddings Music Theatre (Toronto, ON), Vancouver Opera Company Chorus (Vancouver,
BC) and Opera Nuova (Edmonton, AB) and is a member of the Canadian Actors Equity
Association (CAEA). In addition to professional singing engagements, Kelly enjoys sharing
her knowledge and experience through teaching private singing lessons, master classes, choral conducting, and vocal workshops.
Ms. Coubrough is a new resident of Salmon Arm and we are thrilled at FACES that she has reached out to us! She has worked extensively with children and youth throughout her career in the arts and is eager and excited to shape this year’s lessons into something that will engage children in a variety of ways. She will be teaching Music Explorations & Rhythmic Movement classes for ages 3 to 5 and Musical Theatre Class. Ms. Kelly will also be teaching private voice lessons on Tuesdays out of the FACES studio. Welcome Ms. Kelly.
